For ordinary / annual accrued leave, requests should ideally be logged 14 to 30 days prior to departure. Emergency compassionate requests may be submitted immediately at any time (24/7/365).
How do I obtain my tracking reference code?
Upon completing the 4-step online form, an official tracking code formatted as ML-YYYY-XXXXX is instantaneously generated and displayed on your screen, allowing you to track clearance milestones in real-time.

How does Red Cross verification expedite emergency leave?
The American Red Cross verifies hospitalizations, terminal diagnoses, or family bereavements independently with medical personnel. Once verified, the Red Cross transmits a priority message directly to the commanding unit, triggering immediate 4-12 hour expedited clearance.
Is emergency military flight transportation covered?
Under Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), service members stationed overseas or on combat deployments granted authorized emergency leave are eligible for government-funded air transport to the nearest port of entry in the United States.

How do airport TSA and military police verify the digital QR code?
Scanning the cryptographic QR code located on Form DA-31 connects directly to this secure portal, instantly confirming the service member's name, DoD ID, active authorization window, and commanding officer approval stamp.
